Scouts from across Burnley and Pendle gathered at Seedhill Athletics Track on Sunday (27th April) to renew their promises and take part in various activities which had been organised by groups from across the district.
The event started off with a parade of all the groups within the district followed by all members of the Scout Association, both past and present, renewing their promises. It is the first ceremony in the District since the introduction of the movement’s new alternative promise and everyone attending was invited to use whichever version of the promise they felt most appropiate.
After the formalities, the young people and their families set off to enjoy the activities laid on for them. These activities ranged from face painting to zorbing, with something for everyone!
Matthew, an Explorer Scout from Burnley and Pendle Explorers, carried the Union Flag and told us, “It was well attended and a very enjoyable event for everyone involved. I am glad to have been a part of it.”
Simon Moorhouse, District Commissioner of Burnley and Pendle said, “It was fantastic to see so many people from across the district turn out to support the event.
“Fortunately the weather held out for us and everyone had a fantastic time going round and trying out all of the activities. I’d like to thank all the leaders who put on the activities as the day would not have been the success it was without you.”
